An External Wastegate (EWG) allows exhaust gases to be diverted prior to
entering the turbo; creating quicker turbo spool. The GrimmSpeed™ EWG has a larger diameter than a stock internal wastegate; this allows the exhaust gas to be released faster, which improves boost control, maintains maximum boost longer in the rpm range. All of these together will give you a 10-40 HP INCREASE. Moving the wastegate out of the turbo relieves the turbo from the massive amounts of turbulence that the stock internal wastegate creates.
The entire EWG Up-Pipe is made of 304 SS(flanges, flex, tubing) and has a pipe-wall thickness of 14 Gauge, this is the most "heavy-duty" pipe you will find. Many other pipes use cheap thin steel and are marketed as "super light weight", not us. The inlet size is 1.92" and the pipe tapers down to 1.72” which acts as a funnel as it moves into the turbo allowing for the smoothest transition and best air-flow quality. The one of a kind Triple Layer Flex Joint is not located in the bend, which adds to the life expectancy of the flex section. Our outlet size is a perfect match to the most common stock location turbos allowing for a smooth transition into the turbo.
Also available with the EWG Up-Pipe package, a bracket to hold the stock internal wastegate shut. This bracket is helpful because the turbo door does not need to be welded shut, decreasing the chance for leaks and allowing for easy removal if necessary. this is the way subarus should come from the factory. Spool on this thing is unreal compared to stock. i had a stage 2 setup and went with a grimmspeed ebcs, uppipe and tial ewg + tune and it feels like a new car. its one of the best mods you can do.

I ordered this last Wednesday and recevied it on Friday! Holy cow fast shipping! I then was able to get my hands on it and I must say that you guys continue to blow me away with the quality and craftsmanship of your parts. The Thermal coating is awesome and the welds and flanges are remarkable! I just got it on the car and fitment is A++. Cant wait to fire it up and see the gains. Thanks for another awesome product!

Just got this on the car and it left me speechless. The uppipe, ewg, and ebcs combine to create unbelievable spool. I was trying to be timid and at only half throttle I was pushed into my seat. This IS the ewg kit to have if you are in the market for one. Period.

have made 2 orders from grimmspeed. I have the 38mm ewg kit with black cermaic coating and i have all their exhaust gaskets including the 2x thick up pipe to manifold gasket. amazing products, build quality is amazing, and shipping was lightning fast. cant wait to get my header pnp'd along with my intake manifold and TB.

I always read on this site that going with an external wastegate would only provide ""better boost control. However, because the stock upipe is restrictive, the grimmspeed unit along with a tial 38mm gate gave me not only better boost control but better throttle response and more power/torque throughout the rpm range. here's what I noticed over the past few weeks
1)normal/off boost driving is much smoother and it is nearly impossible to ""lug"" the car at low rpms. (this is probably due to the larger diameter/better designed upipe and not the ewg)
2)when the gate opens at WOT the turbo "hits" much harder than before. Right around 3400 rpms I get smushed into my seat, whereas before the road to full boost was much more tame/gradual. Previously I had to jack up the wastegate duty in th summer to get remotely quick boost response that sometimes caused a spike. With the ewg, a humid day requires a 2-3% adjustment of the wg duty for immediate response. On the same note, my boost gauge needle looks like it might break off from such rapid movement
3) I am seeing ~2 mpg more on the highway when driving conservatively."
