Nice filter!
Good quality filter. Do I notice a boost? Yes, I can tell a slight difference, doesn't feel like its starving for air. I'm a fan! Thanks for the great service!
At GrimmSpeed we know that not everyone is ready for one of our full aftermarket intake systems, but still wants a safe and easy way to increase power with no tuning required. We worked hard to develop a direct replacement, dry-element air filter for the stock airbox that not only decreases restriction, producing more torque and horsepower, but is also able to filter out particulates at the same level as the OEM filter to keep your engine safe.

WHY CHOOSE GRIMMSPEED?
Filter design is a delicate balancing act, the overall goal of creating a good air filter is to find the ideal combination of flow, filtration efficiency and holding capacity. There IS a difference between simply making a unit that fits in a factory intake box and engineering a performance air filter.
Some air filters are constructed with a cotton or synthetic media combined with an oil to increase filtering ability. This can increase flow, however it also means more difficult filter maintenance because of the need to properly re-oil the filter. We decided to use a dry-construction media, utilizing two different layers of synthetic material with varied filtering and flow abilities, resulting in very similar flow capability to the oiled media while maintaining the same filtering efficiency. Since other important variables in air filter design including the pleat pitch, count and depth can make or break the performance of a filter, extensive testing was required.
TESTING
We contracted a 3rd party OEM Test Lab using SAE-5011 OEM Air Filter Standards for our initial filter designs. All of these were the same size and fitment, but used varied filter media including pleat pitch, count, depth, material and construction.
The first data set explores pressure drop across the filter before and after saturation since it directly relates to the performance potential of the filter. Chart 1 shows that the pressure drop of all clean and dirty filters was very similar, identifying the filtering ability of each panel. The next data set focuses on the filtration ability in each filter; Chart 2 illustrates that filters A and B allowed far too much of the test dust to flow through, with filter C being the optimal candidate for additional performance-based testing. We took the general construction of this unit and modified it into 3 different pleat variations.
Since ultimate performance of an air filter is based on its flow ability, we wanted to see how different pleat packs would compare to the OEM filter in terms of CFM through the filter as well as dust capacity. Chart 3 illustrates that as flow increases, capacity decreases. We see that the performance of the filters has substantially increased over the OEM unit, at the slight cost of reduction in dust capacity. Arguably the most important criteria of the filter is its ability to resist the flow of contaminants. The OEM filter was found to filter at 99.7%, with all three of our test filters scoring almost identically with 99.2% or above as illustrated in chart 4. All of these filters would be exceptional choices.
After this very comprehensive testing, we were able to select a design that meets the GrimmSpeed standard and best balanced the ultimate flow potential with the dust holding capacity as illustrated in Chart 5. This filter maintains the same efficiency as OEM, but has an increase in CFM by 62%. The reduction in dust holding capacity is an acceptable middle ground between the filter choices and will still retain a lengthy maintenance interval.
DYNO TESTING
In order to properly evaluate the performance gains of The GrimmSpeed Dry-Con Air Filters, we did four wide open throttle pulls with the OEM air filter, then four more with our unit on a 2020 factory-tuned STI test car. The outlier run was thrown out and results were averaged as shown in Chart 6. We can see a solid 9 ft/lbs of torque difference and a consistent 6 whp gain from 5400rpm until redline with the GrimmSpeed filters. There is reduction in restriction in the top end that shows well here and has a direct relation to the performance of the air filter.
CONCLUSION
The GrimmSpeed Dry-Con Air Filter flows an amazing 62% better than OEM, features a 99.2% efficiency and is easy to service without the added hassle of proper re-oiling. Through testing, we saw an increase of 9 ft/lbs of torque and 6 whp at the top end of the RPM range with no engine tuning involved.

Good quality filter. Do I notice a boost? Yes, I can tell a slight difference, doesn't feel like its starving for air. I'm a fan! Thanks for the great service!
So far so good. Can hear a little more of that turbo noise which was what I was hoping for. Maybe a slight increase in response and fuel economy as well. Overall, well worth the $60.
060089. Better than K&N. Super fast processing and shipping. Great customer service. The engine sounds a little happier. Nice quality filter. You don't notice any hp gains until you apply the sticker.
Bought a brand new 21 STI and ran the OEM filter for a month and changed to a K&N drop-in filter, noticed a nice difference. Cleaned at 6k mile intervals. Just replaced the K&N with the Grimmspeed dry con air filter and what a difference from the K&N. More throaty, better acceleration. The biggest difference I noticed was in Intelligent mode, almost felt like S mode acceleration instead of the bogged down feeling that intelligent usually feels like. If you are looking to make a little more HP, and better sound and not void your warranty, then this is the air filter. I honestly didn't expect it to be any better than the K&N, but it definitely is.
Awesome filter that helps give a little more breathing room. Worked with the guys at Grimmspeed, and after doing some cross-referencing, found that the 060089 Filter works with the Crosstrek (at least a 2019 one)!
Super easy and direct replacement for the factory air filter. Excellent quality and definitely way better filter media than oem or other aftermarket filters. Plus you hear the turbo alittle more , so there’s nothing not to love. Good job grimmspeed!
Happy with the purchase, it's exactly what I was expected, and it shipped/arrived quickly! It might just be my mind playing tricks, but it definitely feels more eager and less restricted after the install. Haven't had a chance to give her the full beans yet so I can't comment on improved noise just yet. Thanks Grimmspeed!
I love how you can hear the turbo a bit more with this! Simple install and you can really hear the suction when you quickly tap the gas. Fast shipping!
Perfect replacement/upgrade and took less than 2 minutes to swap.
Great air filter for stock box, adds a little more turbo noise maybe a little more power definitely doesn’t decrease power.
This thing makes the car breathe! Overall driving performance and responsiveness is great! Plus it makes all of the turbo noise youd want to hear from inside the cabin! 10/10 recommend
I notice a slight increase in power in my 2021 WRX. Also hearing the turbo more is nice. Engine seems to be getting more air and in Colorado that’s even better for my car! Thank you for this awesome product!

Extremely easy installation. I don't notice the power gain but I believe Grimmspeed that it's there. The turbo whistle is slightly louder which I like since the rest of my car is stock. Highly recommend this to someone looking for an upgrade that won't void the warranty!
I installed one recently on my 09 FXT. There was definitely a noticeable difference in response. It's not neck breaking but it's enough for you to notice. Fits air box perfectly and is reuseable!
Love this filter save money and reduce waste by using this reusable air filter and gain a few more HP it’s a no brainer for me !
Feels like the car is more awake now. I don’t really get anymore extra noises but I like it. Fits perfect as well.
works great!
This was good1st upgrade to my 2020 wrx and best thing if you want to keep warranty plus you can feel the difference.
I'm shocked how much this drop in filter made a difference to my stock 18' WRX. It is 100% noticable how much better it is breathing. Better throttle response, and it definitely pulls harder throughout the powerband. This is a must have if you're waiting through your warranty. Thanks GS!
Sounds better, engine more responsive. MPG went down, I keep wanting to go WOT to hear that sweet induction sound.
Simply perfect fit and function for my application. Slides into place easily and nice and snug. Great way to open up your stock air box. While your in there, it is a great time to remove your intake resonator (milk jug). Just make sure to cap off the left over hole
I've ran every configuration of intake it seems. The dry ckn filter is the best I've had with Sunaru STI. Im not running a COBB a/p, just suddle mods, this filter is perfect for that, cudnt of made it better
I've tried several dry panel filters and this is by far the best! I have a custom "hybrid" style intake on a n/a ej25d and this filter has out performed ALL the rest. The Scangauge II immediately show a higher HP with nothing else changed except the filter. This is the best filter on the market, no doubt! Just buy one. This will be the last filter you will ever buy for your car.
Shipping was fast and the filters looks great! Installed them the next day I received them. I am most happy about is the throttle response, especially on the 86 (breathes/pulls better). Driven both cars for a while now and no CELs. I was particularly worried about having it on the STI with the stock tune but I have it on for about 700+ miles and no issues. I am happy with the filters, it will pay for itself being reusable. Great product and quality is really good. I surely recommend this filter to anyone who owns the same cars that I have, who still have stock airboxes!
Fast shipping and great quality product too. Super easily to install.
Like everything else I've purchased from GrimmSpeed, you can tell the team really focuses on quality and performance so they can bring a great product to market. You'll notice the fit and finish of the filter is top-notch - drops right in and you're on your way. Never been the biggest fan of "wet" filters, so this was an easy purchase. As noted in another review, there is minimal increase in intake noise and the car seems to breathe/pull better all the way to redline. I'd recommend it to anybody in the market for a filter.
Here’s the deal, only 2 companies make specifically designed filters for the 2019+ sti redesigned airbox. The previous filter designs for 2015-2018 sti are a hit or miss on fitment and I have personally tested: blitz (doesn’t work at all for 2019+ sti airbox the thing won’t close) K&N (great filter but oiled and power band can feel choppy? at times.. - only other company with 2019+ sti specific filter design) Apexi - fits the airbox but does not feel like a proper fitment, if you don’t believe me experiment with one in a 2019 sti and see what I mean - good filter quality though and does basically fit but very tight close. And now...I’m running a Grimmspeed drycon. Smooth power band. Designed similar to a k&n but looks like a lot nicer filtration design good material as described by them. Excellent perfect fitment in the airbox for a 2019+ sti. I will say it’s not audibly as “wooshy” as all the other panel filters I’ve mentioned. It’s kinda quite like the apexi with the k&n being loudest. But this one makes a little faint intake noise over stock and apexi & honestly thats cool plus the car feels nice and stock with it and rings out the rpm range real nice. It’s washable which is also a plus and I’m glad there’s a few ponies from it more than likely as highlighted in their testing for the sti. Great stock airbox panel filter option. Don’t hesitate just get it instead of a stock genuine OEM one and give it a shot like I am.
Ordered this the day they were released and received it the next day. Filter appeared to be good quality and install was a breeze. Drop it in and clip the airbox shut and you are good to go. Seems to be a no brainer for the price and the fact that it is reusable after a cleaning. Will pay for itself in no time. I don't know if I noticed any performance increase, but haven't had any issues with check engine lights or otherwise. Running this on a Stage 1 OTS tune and the Accessport readings have stayed the same. Quality product!
