Purrrrrrrrfect!!!
The GrimmSpeed TMIC was the perfect part I needed! I was finally able to reach the HP goals I was aiming for. Went from 285whp to 334whp with only e85 and this intercooler! Needless to say it was a huge difference. The stock intercooler was tiny and got heat-soaked almost instantly. After the GrimmSpeed TMIC was installed, the car runs smooth through even the most intensive driving! Easy fit in the engine bay and it makes it look great! If you are looking to take your car to the next level then get this intercooler!
2005 Subaru Outback 2.5 XT Lmt
It's an easy product to install. Mine did not come with installation instructions but i used Youtube from various Subaru makes to finish my installation. It's a direct bolt on but it does take some effort to put everything together, such as the silicone connects for the turbo infeed to the TMIC and from the TMIC to the throttle body. Have patient and have fun putting them on is the key. The other was the TMIC mounting brackets, I had to Youtube which direction they go on otherwise it's a direct fit with new bolts.
The TMIC looks great in my 05 OBXT, I had to modified my engine cover but it's only because I like the cover over the ugly engine bay without the cover.
I would recommend this product to anyone wanting to replace OEM TMIC.
Amazing does it no justice
I can not say how amazing this product is. I heard some rumors it can be a pain to install, but let me tell you it is probably one of the easiest installs I have done. I would buy this product again in a heart beat. Even after sprinted and hot days the intercooler is remarkably cooler then anything else I have seen. Thanks grimmspeed for an amazing product!
Great Product, Straightforward Install
Like the title says, the product works perfectly, fits great, and has a really straightforward installation process. Grimmspeed shipped to me quickly, and everything arrived fast and well packaged.
I followed the Video on YouTube for the installation, and almost everything was exactly as it was supposed to be - there were only two places that gave me a slight head-scratcher. First, on your car, there may be a heat/sound blanket on the underside of the hood. It's held up with plastic trim clips - they don't show that removal in the video. Pull that off first, and then the rest of the splitter comes off easily per the instructions.
Secondly, the hose from the throttle body to the intercooler is a bit of a pain to get installed. After fighting with it for a few minutes, I sprayed a very minute amount of WD-40 onto a paper towel, and then wiped down the inside of the hose, and the outside of the intercooler outlet. With that done, it assembled with minimum fuss. You may want to try that with the BPV hose as well - just a thought!
All the bolts/clamps/hoses/etc that come with the kit are really nice, high quality pieces. I'm glad I picked Grimmspeed!
Quality Intercooler
I'm a big fan of Grimmspeed and chose this intercooler over the PW. Pretty straight forward install, didn't take a lot of time but some of the hose clamps can be a little tricky.
Overall I think this is a great addition to the engine bay, it looks great and is definitely a quality piece. Stays cool to the touch after an hour or so of driving, and a slight mpg increase. Can't wait to get a tune to get the most out of it! Thank you!
amazed by this product!
Install was a breeze! Literally took me about an hour and a half to install the intercooler for splitter. Haven't got any sort of heat soak ever since install and it looks real nice in engine bay. Highly recommended this product that's Fursure
Top Quality TMIC
Purchased a Grimmspeed TMIC for my 2012 WRX, previously had a Process West TMIC on my car and boy am I glad I made the switch. This TMIC fits perfectly and even accommodated my Turbosmart dual port BPV. I had fitment issues with the PW intercooler where my BPV would occasionally hit the top of my hood scoop under load. Other improvements are the bushings installed on the upper and lower mounts to absorb shock during driving. I couldn't be happier with this product and commend Grimmspeed on their R & D because it really shows on this product and is worth every penny!
Perfect design and fit
Tried a couple of other top-mount inter-coolers and had to return them due to poor fitment and design. The Grimmspeed TMIC for my 2005 Legacy GT was a perfect fit. Installation was a breeze thanks to great written and video support and the design optimized all the available space to the maximum. Running a vf52 tuned car the difference in performance is very prominent.
A+++ Grimmspeed !!!
top notch quality
well engineered kit, excellent customer support and the installation video was extra helpful. The quality of the grimmspeed TMIC is fantastic! Thanks guys!!
Blew My Mind!
I just received my intercooler last night and was blown away by the quality. When these guys say that they meticulously engineered this piece, they meant it. The welds were perfect and the kit is very very complete so you don't need ANYTHING else for the install. Everything was individually packaged and had a flawless black powder coat. I was so excited about receiving this intercooler that I went outside immediately and pulled the factory one. upon doing a side by side comparison, its hard to believe the factory one did anything for the car at all. The GS unit is much larger and even though it is much larger the fitment under the hood is perfect. Couldn't ask for a better product. Grimmspeed is the only company I trust to build performance parts for my car, they leave no stone unturned and build the highest quality products available. Thank you Grimmspeed for putting in the R&D to engineer your masterpieces. Grimmspeed 4 lyfe.
great but could use some more
Product was very sharp. Should round all edges/debure.need better mounting. With the 2 center mounts with the motor it shakes from side to side at certain rpms. Turbo inlet pipe on top mount should get moved back a little bit for easier access and so pipe isn't bent so sharp.
Excellent Build Quality! Great piece of Mind!
Picked up my first preowned Subaru Legacy GT 2006 with 93k miles on it. Had it for a few months now. It was completely stock, and the previous owner had it for 8 years, and took very good care of it. Now onto me, my first mods were the GS Up-Pipe, Invidia Catless DP, and Cobb AP Stage 2. Car has a nice extra punch, but now i want more reliability upgrades starting with TMIC. At the time GS had not released any details on a top mount, so i was interested in the AVO, or Perrin TMIC. Luckily im not rich, and by the time i had the funds ready GS released the Group Buy on NAOSIC, and i was ecstatic! Signed up, and paid! It arrived in 3-days.
First Impression/Unboxing (5/5):
When you first get the package it comes in a brown box with some TMIC diagram, and details. When you first open up the box, you breathe in your hard earned cash smell as you find your TMIC was packaged by "Matt" Thank you Matt. And as you unravel the Splitter specified to your car, The LGT splitter completely replaces the OEM one (which i love). Next is the TMIC itself. When you lift this heavy solid piece of solitude, you KNOW you have a solid built product, and that your car will love you for this upgrade. Not only that, but all the rubber hoses/clamps/bolts are all high quality. Cant stress enough what great quality components Grimmspeed uses in their kits.
Installation Time:(2 HRS for me with a friend)
Difficulty: 2/5 (Video from GS helped alot!)
Tools: Basic socket wrench, screwdriver.
Again this took me 2 hours with a buddy helping me out. The installation is very basic and clear, some slight differences installing on an LGT not in the video were:
Top Mounting Bracket/Bolt (Pitch Stop/AC Line area): You have to bolt from the bottom. No biggie.
Front Mounting Bracket/Bolt: I have a 5EAT and there are actually 2 wire harnesses connected to the OEM metal bracket. You can remove them completely and zip tie them securely to GS supplied bracket. I personally left the OEM bracket in, and zip tied it to the GS bracket. I just didnt wanna risk ripping wires out, so i just left it. Intercooler fits perfectly, and OEM bracket isnt going anywhere.
Hardest hose to get to get snug was the "Cobra Hose" coming from the throttle body up to the TMIC. I found out a trick to help getting this Cobra Hose to fit flush is to squeeze the Cobra's "Neck" left side/right side push up. It goes on much easier, once you get that on securely. Make sure ALL clamps have a nice 1/4" from wherever they are connected to, and tighten, reaaaaaal good! Once you have checked all connections, and everything is tight, fire up the engine!
First Driving Impression:
First time, i started my engine (Started at 10pm, finished around 1230am) after the Intercooler install everything seemed fine while running. Didnt hear or feel any major vacuum leaks, so i went for a test drive. As soon as i put it in "D" i noticed a little rough idle than normal. Once the car warmed after driving not hitting boost, i accelerated and noticed major boost leak. Alot of air was escaping somewhere, and trust me you will know when your car isnt holding boost. So drove it back, went to bed, got up 7am next morning and just retraced all my steps, and made sure all clamps had a good bite on all connections! Finished by around 8am, fired it up, put it "D" and noticed the rough idle was gone( Good so far), then started cruising until car got warmed up. Once it was warmed up, accelerated, boosted and YES, SHE IS ALIVE AGAIN! Pulling just like before, if not better! So yes, double check, triple check everything is on securely and youre golden!
Overall Satisfaction: 5/5
I would buy this product again in a heartbeat.Everything fits perfectly, you have an installation video, that you can follow as you install, and its such a great quality part to know is installed on your baby. All thanks to Grimmspeed's hard at work R&D team, producing this incredible product! Thanks again Grimmspeed! -BL5BO from LegacyGT.com
